Dot and I are back at it again friends. This time on our journey of the Meet the B-Line series we went to lunch at Libby’s Southern Comfort in Covington, Kentucky. Located inside the former home of the Dixie Wholesale Grocery, this modern bar and restaurant serves guests incredible drinks and delectable southern cuisine.
Named in honor of the owner’s daughter Libby, Brad and Michelle Wainscott, along with their business partners Jeremy and Kate Legge wanted to create a warm and welcoming place for community members to gather and make memories. With plenty of space to sit at the bar, tables inside and on the fully covered patio that can host guests year-round, there is always room for you here. Be sure to look for the paw prints on the floor made by the owners’ beloved black Lab Yuma, who is also featured beside Libby as the restaurant logo.

What We Ate
For lunch we enjoyed an appetizer and two entrées.
Fried Green Tomatoes
Their fried green tomatoes are so good. Juicy and flavorful on the inside with a golden breaded outside that gives a great crunchy texture. Topped with Libby’s own pimento cheese, pork belly lardons, bourbon onion jam and herb oil…chef’s kiss.
Shrimp and Grits
Dot opted for the Shrimp and Grits. While the portion may be on the smaller size, it is hearty and filling. Made with Tasso grits, blackened shrimp, fried onion straws and chives, Dot was living. She loved the mix of textures and thought the blackened shrimp was a great choice because it added a slight smokey flavor that she loved.
Hot Honey Fried Chicken Sandwich
I know, I often get the chicken sandwich if it is on the menu. I like what I like. And this one is no exception. Golden, crispy fried chicken, covered in a house made hot honey and topped with coleslaw and red onions- get in my belly. The outside of the sandwich was crunchy and the inside tender and juicy. Added a side of southern mac & cheese and regretted nothing. This is comfort food, and it was tasty.
This was just a slice of all the incredible items they offer. Additionally, you can find southern favorites like oysters, fried chicken, collard greens, goetta hush puppies (local favorite) and for dessert, we highly recommend the hand-crafted oatmeal cream pies made by a local company called Scratch.
While we did not partake in a fine adult beverage during lunch, Libby’s has a full bar stocked with Kentucky Bourbon, beer, wine and specialty cocktails. For our non-alcoholic friends, they proudly serve Athletic, pop, and of course iced tea!
Every time Dot and I come to Libby’s we have a great experience. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is laid back and the food always made with love.
