Meet The B-Line®: Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar (OKBB)

Welcome new and cherished friends to our Meet the B-Line series. Here, Dot (co-worker and board gamer lover) and I stop into our local bars, restaurants and distilleries located on Northern Kentucky’s self-guided bourbon tour, The B-Line®.

Today, Dot and I stopped into the bar voted as having the number one Bourbon Cocktail and the number one Bourbon Selection by CityBeat Magazine’s, “Best of Cincinnati 2024” – the Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar, affectionately known locally as OKBB.

OKBB is an intimate bourbon bar located on Main Street in the heart of Covington’s bustling Mainstrasse Village neighborhood. While Kentucky Bourbon is sold in many bars throughout the Commonwealth, just over a decade ago there wasn’t an establishment in Northern Kentucky dedicated to our beloved “brown water”. On Derby Day, 2012, that changed when OKBB opened their doors.

Today OKBB has a collection of over 700, not an exaggeration, 700 different types of Kentucky Bourbon and 200 different types of American Whiskey. Ask the bartender about their bottle sales! Here you could snag a rare bourbon that can’t be found in some stores. Staff also curate flights for guests to enjoy. Request a menu. For those that are not interested in bourbon, OKBB does have a collection of rotating craft beers and spirits as well as a non-alcoholic menu! Here in Northern Kentucky, we have a strict no friend left behind rule! While their menu is vast, here are just a sampling of the drinks you can find on their menu.

What We Drank

Quick fun fact. On Wednesday evenings, you can spin the $5 Mystery Wheel and let fate decide what $5 pour of bourbon you should drink!

Old Grand Dad Bonded Bourbon

Dot, let fate decide with this one. The Mystery Wheel landed on Old Grand Dad Bonded Bourbon. Fun fact, OGD is our President and CEO, Julie Kirkpatrick’s favorite bourbon. She’s an Executive Bourbon Steward and our Chief Bourbon Sipper so if she gives it the thumbs up, I believe her. Dot thought the bourbon was smooth and buttery.

Bourbon Smash

This bourbon cocktail was made with bourbon, lemon, mint, and sugar. It was a perfect cocktail for a warm and sunny day. It was light, refreshing and sweet without being overly sweet.

Kentucky Lemonade

This isn’t your grandma’s lemonade! Made with bourbon, sugar, citrus oil, citrus and OKBB house made grenadine, this sweet drink is a perfect cocktail for patio sitting weather.

OKBB has a relaxed vibe, great drinks, and a friendly staff. After you order, if you can’t find a seat inside or at the bar, head out back to their patio or snag one of their tables and chairs out-front on the sidewalk. Personally, I enjoy the front because Covington is swarming with cute and friendly dogs enjoying a leisurely stroll with their families.
